Leigh,

Yes, I agree. My statement may offend some people. I'm not putting the shiny, colorful fish down.

But if you would to think back for a moment when you first started fishkeeping seriously (I assume you're an experienced aquarist base on what you said), didn't you go for the big fish instead of tiny fish? Since you were already emotionally invested, you decided to invest in quality fish and equipment. Then along the way (maybe years later), you want to rear guppies to bring back those nostalgic moments. So what better place to house these shiny colorful fish other than your office desk?

Again, I assume you like to have your cakes (3 in your case) and eat them too! Not many have the time, money, and space like you do.

Calling small fish "a waste of time and money" and "fish with no personality" and "no fun at all" seems rather strongly stated. I have 5 aquariums with large fish, medium fish and small fish (grouped according to size and compatibility) and the one on my office desk with many, many colorful little guppies brings a lot of happiness to my household. It is really nice to be able to forget the stress of work and our at home business for a few peaceful moments while watching the guppies flit about their little tank. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch our big fish attacking their food and racing across the tank but there is a lot to be said for the happy appearance of a bunch of shiny, colorful fishies!
